Filipino American media org in NY condemns slay of working journos in Gaza
New York - The Filipino American Press Club of New York strongly condemned the killing of working journalists in Gaza. In a recent press statement, the FAPCNY said, “We condemn in the strongest possible terms the savage killing of five journalists in the Israeli strike on Gaza’s Nasser Medical Complex.”
Killed on August 25, 2025 were cameramen Hossam al-Masri, who worked for the Reuters, and Mohammed Salama, who worked for Al Jazeera; freelance journalists Maryam Abu Daqqa and Moaz Abu Taha, and Middle East Eye’s Moaz Abu Taha. Anas Al Sharif of Al Jazeera and Reuters was killed in a strike on August 10.
The FilAm Press Club statement said, “We stand in unwavering solidarity with these fallen journalists and their families. Journalists are not combatants. They are truth-bearers. To deliberately target or recklessly endanger them is to commit a crime against democracy and the global community’s right to know, …and a direct challenge to the values enshrined in the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law.”
It called on the UN, the International Criminal Court, and the global community of nations to investigate the atrocity.
Founded in 2011, the FAPCNY is a private, non-profit organization of local media practitioners in the Filipino communities in the US East Coast. #
