Queens, NY - On Saturday August 9, 2025, Apicha Community Health Center will be celebrating the National Health Center Week (NHCW) 2025 with a Community Health Fair at Diversity Plaza in Jackson Heights, Queens.  This special occasion will feature a health and resource fair, cultural performances, and a special award to Juttana “Moo” Rimreartwate from Thai Community USA NYC for his service to the Queens community as a champion for community health.

This annual event highlights the essential role the Community Health Centers (CHCs) like Apicha play in improving public health and providing Americans equal opportunity to access critical healthcare services. CHCs are the nation’s largest primary care network, serving 32.5 million patients nationwide. The national theme is “America’s Health Centers Celebrating Past, Present and Future: 60 Years of Improving Our Nation’s Health.”

Community Health Centers like Apicha provide high-quality, affordable care available to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay or insurance status. Apicha serves 7,627 patients throughout New York City, treating a range of chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, HIV/ AIDS, high cholesterol, depression, anxiety, and PTSD.  Apicha’s clinic in Jackson Heights, Queens offers primary care, pediatrics, women’s health, dentistry, HIV/AIDS prevention and care, behavioral health (mental health and substance use & addiction), and free health insurance, SNAP (food assistance) and Medicaid enrollment.

The 2025 theme is “Compassionate Care for All.” National Health Center Week recognizes the nation’s 1,500 Community Health Centers that deliver essential care to underserved communities while reducing system-wide costs. Together, they are the backbone of the nation’s primary care system, saving the healthcare system money by reducing chronic diseases and costly hospital visits.

In addition, CHCs are racing against a September deadline as their federal funding expires for next year. The recently enacted "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" is projected to cost CHCs $7 billion annually in higher uncompensated care costs and jeopardize coverage for 4 million patients. While CHCs never turn patients away, anticipated Medicaid coverage reductions will force impossible budget choices. NACHC projects these combined pressures could lead to workforce cuts that could result in up to 6,000 preventable CHC patient deaths annually. CHCs like Apicha serve 10% of the U.S. population but represent roughly only 1% of total annual healthcare spending nationwide.
